Commercial Real Estate Law Clerk, for mid size law firm client, North York.

Job Type: Full Time Permanent.
Compensation: From $60,000 to $80,000 per annum, according to experience, plus comprehensive benefits.
Regular Work Hours: 7.0 hours per day not including 1 hour lunch break, to be worked during regular business hours, Monday to Friday (35.0 work hours per week).
Work Location: Hybrid - combination of 2 days remote-based and 3 days onsite at client's North York office, with free parking provided. Onsite work expectations subject always to client business requirements, and may change according to client business need.
Position Reports To: Partner.
Responsibilities Summary:
Provide comprehensive legal services to commercial real estate legal team and support all stages of commercial real estate transactions, including purchase and sale of land and commercial buildings, land development, and mortgages, refinancing and lending. Interact directly with clients, providing comprehensive customer service and utilizing using effective communication and interpersonal skills to professionally represent the firm. Conduct and review title searches, including off-title searches, to ensure validity of property ownership. Draft and review legal documents such as purchase agreements, mortgages, lease agreements, and other real estate-related contracts. Complete land development related duties as required, including land title applications, subdivision registration, severances, and easement payments. Draft, assemble and coordinate documents required for closing, including reports for corporate lenders, vendors, purchasers and mortgage companies as needed. Organize and maintain files, including electronic documents and paper files. Ensure compliance with all relevant real estate laws, regulations, and procedures. Additional law clerk responsibilities supporting full cycle of commercial real estate transactions, as required.
Qualifications:
Education: Law Clerk Diploma from a recognized Ontario Law Clerk program.
Professional Credentials: ILCO Certification an asset.
Preferred Work Experience: At least 3+ years of experience in Commercial Real Estate Law.
Preferred Sector Experience: Law Firm experience preferred.
Technical and Language Skills Requirements: Strong proficiency in MSOffice applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, One Drive and Teams (may be tested). Strong technical skills in Conveyancer and Teraview electronic registration systems. Familiarity with Amicus Attorney and Aderant applications an asset. Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal, including advanced level business writing skills, excellent spelling, grammar, proofreading and syntax, and polished, professional telephone manners.
Task -Based Qualifications and Additional Attributes: Strong understanding of real estate law and regulations in Ontario. Experience working on complex commercial real estate and land development transactions. Demonstrated ability to handle files independently or as part of a team. Experience with commercial leasing and construction law an asset. Proficiency in legal documents preparation and review. Demonstrated record of professional conduct and character. Resourceful, with strong research, investigative and problem-solving skills. Proven ability to professionally handle confidential information and exercise good judgement in the interpretation and application of instructions and organization policy. Superior attention to detail, and organized, methodical approach to completion of tasks. Advanced organizational, coordinative and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively for self and others, meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure. Strong relationship management skills including client and vendor relations management, business networking, negotiation, and consulting/advisory skills. Demonstrated ability to work well both independently and collaboratively, and in an advisory capacity, and liaise effectively with a wide and diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
Additional Requirements: Must be legally entitled to work in Canada, providing satisfactory documentation upon request. Ability to work both remotely and onsite, abiding by organization health and safety policies. Ability to declare personal Non-Conflict of Interest in execution of position responsibilities. Provision of certification of AODA and OHSA online training course completion. Satisfactory Background Checks, Technical Skills Evaluations, and Employment References.
