Bird is a place where you will unlock your potential and achieve your goals.The Ottawa Buildings branch is experiencing rapid expansion, with a projected backlog exceeding $800 million and anticipated annual revenue expected to quadruple over the next three years. To support this significant growth trajectory, the branch is seeking a dynamic and results-driven Operations Manager to lead the scale-up of operations and drive execution excellence.This is a full time, permanent position based in the Ottawa, ON office.What You Will Be Working OnReporting to the Ottawa Buildings General ManagerRecruit & Build the Core Team - Hire key roles and develop onboarding and training programs. Complete ongoing performance management and development of staff through coaching and mentoring.Establish Operational Systems & Processes - Set up workflows for procurement, scheduling, safety, and reporting with ongoing refinements and continuous improvement.Oversee Project Execution - Monitor schedules, budgets, technical issues, change management, quality, and HSSE across all active job sites including regular on-site project visits.Manage Designer & Subcontractor Relationships - Source reliable consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers, manage overarching relationships across multiple projects for the branchImplement Financial Controls - Oversee job costing, quarterly P&L, and branch cash flow and expensesSupport Procurement - Collaborate with the procurement team to align operations with incoming work, prepare operational input for bids and proposals.Commercial Management –Review prime contracts and subcontracts.Manage any insurance, lien, or claim issues and drive to closure.Monitor ongoing risk management strategies with the GM.Scale Infrastructure - Plan for equipment, office space, and technology needs as the branch grows.Foster a Strong Culture - Promote a safety-first, performance-driven, and collaborative work environment - lead by example and support team development.What We Are Looking ForPeopleAbility to recruit, train, and lead cross-functional teamsStrong delegation and performance management skillsCommitment to an inclusive and respectful workplace that values diversityExecution15+yrs experience in construction with 10+ in a leadership role$100MUnderstanding of construction methods and scheduling.Familiarity with project delivery models (CM, Design-Build, IPD etc.)Proficiency in job costing, forecasting, and financial reportingApproachHealth, safety, security, and environment focused Clear and effective communicator with ability to build strong relationships with field crews, executives, subtrades & consultants, and clientsStrong analytical skills with detail-oriented documentation and reporting abilitiesSkills in process and workflow creation and managementAbility to work collaboratively with a positive attitudeSense of urgency while being comfortable in a fast-paced, evolving environment with shifting prioritiesQuick decision-maker under pressure; adept at resolving site issues and delaysPlease note: Artificial Intelligence will not be used in the screening process for this role.We Put Safety FirstA healthy and safe work environment is non-negotiable. Responsibilities: Provide day-to-day leadership across all business units including Aviation, Hospitality, Real Estate, Retail, Brewery, and Luxury Charter.
Ensure each company is held accountable to KPIs, budgets, and standard operating procedures.
Act as the liaison for all site-level managers, including General Managers and Operational Leads.
Implement, standardize, and enforce SOPs, workflows, and operational cadence (e.g. weekly calls, monthly performance reviews).
Ensure existing software systems and reporting tools are effectively utilized and optimize where necessary.
Maintain rigorous performance tracking and monthly reporting in collaboration with functional leaders.
Evaluate and mentor business unit leaders, instilling a culture of accountability and clarity in role expectations.
Work with the Director of Human Resources to define roles, manage performance issues, and support leadership development.
Encourage confident leadership through mentoring, not micromanagement.
Interface with Directors of Finance, HR, and Technology to align business unit activities and share best practices.
Ensure all compliance, and regulatory frameworks are met with appropriate internal and external resources.
Maintain tight collaboration with the Director of Technology and Director of HR to optimize tools, culture, and service delivery.
Drive margin, efficiency, and quality enhancements across all lines of business.
Identify and replicate high-performing practices between divisions.
Lead change management initiatives and performance turnarounds where necessary. Required Skills and Knowledge: Confident, direct communicator with high emotional intelligence and self-awareness.

8+ years of experience in operations leadership roles, ideally across multi-site or multi-industry environments.
