Visit us today and check out to see why more people from across the globe are moving here.About the OpportunityThe Social Worker is responsible for clinical assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of prevention and early intervention programming for adolescents at-risk for or who have mild substance use and/or mental health problems. As part of a team, the Social Worker must be knowledgeable and utilize principles from harm reduction, population health, community development, health promotion and prevention, and early intervention. The Social Worker provides a wide range of services in schools and communities, including screening, assessment, supportive counseling, referral, case navigation/management, early/ brief intervention, outreach, and group programming.About YouWe would love to hear from you if you have the following:Bachelor's degree in Social WorkRegistered with the Nova Scotia College of Social Work (NSCSW)Two years’ (post-BSW) related clinical experience (preferably working with children and adolescents with mental health, substance use, or concurrent disorders in a community based setting providing case management and other supportive interventions)Demonstrated knowledge of community resources/ programs and community development methodsA high degree of proficiency in screening and risk assessment skills, including suicide risk assessmentAn ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships within health care and the community at largeA sound working knowledge of harm reduction strategies and stages of change theoryKnowledge and experience with brief intervention strategies, solution focused approaches, motivational interviewing skills and client engagement strategiesKnowledge and experience with trauma informed care approachKnowledge of social determinants of health/social context and its importance to decision formulationDemonstrated knowledge of cultural sensitivity and cultural competencyDemonstrated knowledge of recovery oriented practice & patient and family centered careThe incumbent will need to have previous experience working with a significant amount of autonomy ensuring the plan of care is being fully articulated and work collaboratively with the care teams when adjustments are neededExperienced in offering supportive brief intervention strategies focuses on harm reduction and recoveryA working knowledge of the DSM and experience in utilizing screening and triaging toolsTravel is required, must have access to reliable transportationCompetencies in other languages an asset, French preferred Minimum two (2) years of clinical experience required. The Position: Social Work Supervisor


The Social Work supervisor provides leadership and oversight for Calgary Seniors' Social Work department, ensuring programs and services remain responsive, innovative, and high-impact. This role is responsible for ensuring high standards of practice, continuous improvement, and service excellence that align with Calgary Seniors' mission and strategic vision.


The Social Work department is comprised of four key programs: In Place, Outreach, SeniorConnect. and Emergency Supports. This position ensures a client-centered focus across all social work programs, integrating best practices in case management, crisis response, advocacy, and system navigation to support vulnerable seniors. The Social Work Supervisor works closely with internal teams and social workers to ensure a seamless and effective experience for seniors in need.


Additionally, this role is responsible for assistance in social work-related projects, including grant-funded initiatives. This involves assisting with the implementation of new and existing projects, and managing timelines and reporting requirements.

Key Accountabilities and Deliverables


Program Leadership & Development

• Work directly with the Manager of Social Work and assist in the leadership of the Social Work department, ensuring services are client-centered, trauma-informed, and aligned with best practices in gerontology and social work.

• Supervise Social Work Teams towards the meeting of program goals.

• Assist Manager of Social Work in the development of policies and service standards, ensuring alignment with Calgary Seniors’ strategic plan and Outcome Framework Actions (Self-Determination, Agency, and Connection).

• Assist Manager of Social Work in social work-related projects, including grant-funded initiatives, ensuring successful execution and alignment with organizational priorities.

• Perform direct service delivery duties as required to support operational needs

• Monitor safety procedures and respond promptly to alerts or calls to ensure timely support and escalation as needed


Operational Oversight & Service Excellence

• Ensure seamless coordination of social work services, including intake processes, case assignment, and service delivery.

• Oversee data collection, program evaluation, and performance measurement to enhance impact and continuous improvement.

• Ensure a trauma-informed, person-centered approach that meets seniors where they are and provides meaningful, practical support.

• Identify opportunities for innovation and collaboration that improve service accessibility and effectiveness.


Team Leadership & Staff Development

• Work directly with the Manager of Social Work to provide leadership, mentorship, and direct supervision to the Social Work team.

• Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and engaged workplace culture where staff feel supported and empowered.

• Conduct regular performance evaluations, goal-setting, and staff check-ins to support growth and professional development.


Community & Stakeholder Engagement

• Act as a Calgary Seniors representative, engaging in collaborative initiatives to improve senior services in Calgary.

• Work with the Manager of Social Work and fund development and leadership teams to identify funding opportunities and contribute to grant applications and impact reports.

• Assist Manager of Social Work in partnerships and collaborations related to grant-funded social work projects, ensuring deliverables and impact goals are met.


Compliance, Reporting & Financial Oversight

• Ensure compliance with professional, ethical, and regulatory standards, including the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) Code of Ethics.

• Prepare reports on program outcomes, funding usage, and impact, ensuring transparency and accountability.

• Stay informed on policy and legislative changes affecting social work and aging services, and assist Manager of Social Work in adapting programs accordingly.

• Assist Manager of Social Work with project budgets, timelines, and reporting requirements for social work-related initiatives and grants.


Education and Experience


The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

• Education: Degree in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.

• Experience: Minimum of 5 years in social work, including program management and leadership in a human services setting.

• Registration: Eligibility for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) preferred.

• Strategic Thinking: Proven ability to develop and implement program strategies that align with organizational priorities.

• Leadership & Team Management: Experience managing, mentoring, and developing teams to foster a high-performing, engaged workplace culture.

• Crisis Intervention & Advocacy: Strong skills in case management, crisis response, and client advocacy.

• Project & Grant Management: Experience overseeing social work-related projects, including grant implementation, budgeting, and reporting.

• Communication & Stakeholder Engagement: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with experience in public speaking, community engagement, and partnership development.

• Financial & Grant Management: Familiarity with budgeting, reporting, and funding applications.

• Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and client management systems (e.g., Caseworthy).


Working Conditions

• Fast-paced and demanding work environment that provides services to vulnerable people experiencing crisis; calculated risks associated with working with “vulnerable or in crisis” clients

• Will work primarily in an office environment but may work in a combination of environments, including an office, client homes and in the community


Details

• Reports To: Social Work Manager

• Hours of Work: Standard work week (Monday-Friday, 37.5 hours per week).

• Salary: $65,000-$70,000 per year, plus benefits
