SUMMARY 
The Senior Electrical Design Engineer will be a member of the professional services team and provide electrical engineering and design to assigned electrical project deliverables. The Senior Electrical Design Engineer will work on electrical systems designs on various projects within a versatile team where all abilities are put to good use. Electrical engineering designs will include base building electrical building systems, electrical tenant design, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure design at new and existing facilities. This role will be that of an individual contributor however the candidate will be expected to provide experience, leadership, and mentorship to the rest of the electrical engineering team. This role will work with our CAD department to develop and deliver electrical designs.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 
Electrical Design Work Responsible for independent project management of multiple concurrent electrical design projects: Management of scope and deliverables Management of CAD deliverables and management of CAD staff deliverables Management of requests with authorities having jurisdiction Management of project budgets and financials Conduct research into the feasibility and provide design, operation and performance of building electrical systems including some or all of the following: Power distribution, connection to utilities, lighting, controls, emergency power, life-safety systems, fire alarms and renewable power generation and storage. Work with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, architects, facility management and technicians to develop detailed design related to various architectural, mechanical, and electrical projects. Electrical design to support the installation of electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Electrical design to support tenant fit up and mechanical equipment upgrades. Support the designs from project initiation to completion by providing equipment selections, cost and timing, estimates, reports, design specifications and drawings for building electrical systems including power distribution, connection to utilities, lighting, controls, emergency power, life-safety systems, fire alarms, electrical vehicle charging infrastructure, and renewable power generation and storage. General Duties Support the Professional Services team with mentoring young engineers. Support the Professional Services team to develop and improve processes, including quality control. Support the Professional Services team to further develop and upkeep standard specifications, detail libraries, and design best practices. Support the Professional Services team with experience and leadership on all electrical deliverables. KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS Minimum 8 years experience in electrical design/engineering. Familiar with Electrical Codes and Provincial Building Codes. Experience in engineering consulting. Strong understanding of the engineering environment in electrical sector. Highly meticulous nature, strong attention to detail. Engineering and construction of building and site electrical, power, lighting and life safety systems (fire alarm, etc). Strong communication skills. Ability to manage competing priorities in fast paced environment. Ability to work on several projects concurrently. Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both official languages considered an asset. Proficient with MS Office suite. Maintain effective working relationships with clients, staff, and other employees. Strong organization skills. Prior customer interface experience. Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Proficiency with computer Tools. Knowledge of building mechanical systems would be an asset. Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation Must hold a degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university. Ontario Professional Engineer (. PEO) required. Engineering license in other provinces would be an asset. Such testing will have a primary purpose of confirming correct internal and external behavior of the product in areas such as performance related behaviours related to DSP capabilities, as well as fault handling and signal conditioningYou will…Set the testing strategy to satisfy Product Line Management (PLM) requirements.Document test plan(s) for broadband modem and client cards in various configurations.Perform manual and automated DSP performance testing of coherent modems using state of the art optical impairment test setups.Perform manual and automated testing of broadband modems in various configurations to confirm correct behaviours in normal and faulted conditions.Determine best method to automate testing and generation of meaningful results.Review test results within modem systems team, and with appropriate SMEs from other groups to determine design improvements that can be made.Raise and track JIRAs (problem tickets) to fix problems and improve product, as appropriate.Create customer facing documentation to share with customer account teams and customers as requiredThe Must Haves:A Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related field.5+ years of Design or Test experience in optical networking or related fieldKnowledge of networking protocols, technologies, and architecturesExperience with hardware design, testing, and validation as well as hardware and software integrationExcellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to think critically and propose innovative solutions.Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.Assets:Hands-on, roll-up-the-sleeves personality.Familiarity with use of one or more of Ciena’s transport products (6500, 5400, 8700, WaveServer)Familiarity with transport protocols (Ethernet, FC, SONET/SDH, OTN)Familiarity with pluggable optics control interface and specificationsExperience working with, and automation of, lab test equipment in a hardware development environment.Programming experience in the following is an asset: Matlab (for performance test automation), C, Python, Linux, scripting languagesExperience with coherent technology and optical fiber impairments is an assetWorking knowledge of MS Office tool suite (Word, Excel), and working with large data sets (sorting, filtering, graphing).Pay Range: The annual salary range for this position is $89,400 - $142,800.Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business.
