The Engineering Department works with internal and external to achieve the goals of YVR Executive Team and leadership.
Position overview

We have a permanent, full-time opportunity for an Intermediate or Senior Project Engineer (Electrical Engineering) in the Engineering Projects Department. Reporting to the Manager, Airport Terminal Projects, the successful candidate will be responsible for the implementation and management of a diverse array of mid-sized to large design and construction projects, with a focus on new and upgrading existing electrical infrastructure.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing assigned capital and investment projects, including developing project requirements, project scope, budget and schedule
- Preparing and delivering on project implementation plans in collaboration with YVR stakeholders and Airport Operations and Maintenance, while acting as a leader in the areas of construction safety and environmental stewardship
- Preparation and evaluation of Request for Proposal and Tender documents, including scope of work definition, technical requirements and schedule constraints
- Managing design teams to develop contract documents and meet desired project outcomes while adhering to scope, schedule and budget
- Maintaining and managing construction contracts, schedules, and project budgets including forecasting costs and risk management
- Liaising with internal Airport Authority departments and external stakeholders throughout the projects, and facilitating discussions, reviews, inspections, and site visits.
Key qualifications include:
- Completion of a university degree in mechanical or electrical engineering combined with a minimum of five years’ (for Intermediate Project Engineer) or ten years’ (for Senior Project Engineer) experience in the design, construction or consulting industry. Completed education in other engineering fields will be considered if accompanied by relevant working experience in a similar size and nature facilities electrical distribution system is an asset
- Registered or eligible to register within 6 months as a Professional Engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC); Passing of the National Professional Practice Exam (NPPE) is required
- Knowledge of construction industry practices and standards; knowledge of airport operations system is an asset
- Strong project management, organization and knowledge of contract law and contract administration processes
- Proficiency using Microsoft office programs, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Project
- Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
This position is open to both Vancouver Airport Authority employees and external applicants. Previous job performance will be taken into consideration for all internal candidates that apply for this position.
Salary Range : $93,788 to $22,573 (Intermediate) or 99,945 to 130,621 (Senior) per annum, based on a 37.5-hour work week. This is individually tailored to reflect your unique experience, qualifications and internal equity.

Under the supervision of the Service Manager, as a Service Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the after-sales service group in order to meet customer needs and study the causes of failure of vehicles produced by the company. company and work with the engineering team to find effective solutions.
In your daily life, you will have to: Provide diagnostic procedures to technicians and customers to limit vehicle downtime and improve the reliability of our product;
Create and improve diagnostic tools;

Awareness Knowledge of electric vehicles or high voltage architectures;
Knowledge of automobile mechanics, an asset;
Knowledge of software: OpenECU, Iqan Design, CATIA electrical system design, an asset;
Advanced skills with MS Office suite.
Good written and oral communication skills (French and English);
This position requires intermediate or advanced knowledge of English, spoken and written on a daily basis, in order to communicate with suppliers and colleagues located outside of Quebec. Skills Ability to communicate effectively; Skills and attitudes Demonstrate a good analytical mind;

Demonstrate good team spirit. Training and Experience Hold a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering;
5 years of relevant experience (preferably in the transportation industry);
Experience in interpreting technical drawings and electrical diagrams;
Experience with CAN bus and “diagnostic trouble code” (DTC) analysis;
Experience with software for CAN analysis (Canalyser, PiSnoop or equivalent);
Experience in collecting and analyzing data and diagnostics. Two positions are to be filled as an electrical engineer: The first position is available for a person with between 3 and 5 years of experience related to the position;
The second position is available for a person with more than 5 years of experience related to the position.

Power Systems Studies Engineer

The Power Systems Studies Engineer conducts a wide range of power systems modelling and analysis which could include power flow, short circuit, transient stability and insulation coordination studies. Power system modelling and studies using electromagnetic transient simulation (EMT) can be included as well. The Power System Studies Engineer shall read and understand the scope of the studies, conduct the analysis required in compliance with applicable industry standards and/or the client’s standards and then prepare the study report documenting the study scope, inputs, assumptions, findings and recommendations. Your Key Responsibilities Perform power system modelling and studies using PSS/E, PSLF, ETAP, ASPEN, PSCAD. Types of studies include:- Power flow Dynamic analysis Short circuit Harmonic analysis Insulation coordination Prepare study reports. In conducting the studies and preparing the study report you will:- Read and clearly understand the scope of the studies Prepare any Requests for Information (RFI) as required to complete the studies. Develop and compare technical solutions for projects and prepare comprehensive study report. The study report will clearly document the study scope, inputs, results, conclusions, and recommendations. Obtain approval from the Power System Studies Team Lead to issue the completed report. Participate in meetings with the client to initially kick off the project, review project progress and present results and recommendations when the study is completed. Manage time, scope and budget of assigned projects Assist/Lead technical proposal development for studies opportunities. The following can be considered as assets for the position:- Experience with protection settings and coordination Performing cable ampacity calculations Control system design and coordination of FACTS and HVDC; including STATCOM, inverter-based renewable generation, etc. Knowledge of EMTP-RV, DIgSILENT, CDEGS, CYME AC network reduction and dynamic performance studies Your Capabilities and Credentials Deep understanding of electrical power system and power electronics theory.
Proficiency in Python programming
Experience with PSS/E and/or PSLF required.
Experience with other power system simulation tools such as ETAP, ASPEN, EMTP-RV, DIgSILENT, PSCAD, is preferred.
Exceptional communication skills, including both writing and public speaking/presenting.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively explain and discuss solutions with clients.
Self-motivated and able to collaborate harmoniously with a group of professional engineers.
Willing and able to travel. Education and Experience Minimum Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Ph.D. degree preferred.

Oversee simulation model development and ensure the accuracy of planning assumptions.
Conduct impact studies for new generation stations and interconnections, and recommend system reinforcements or operational changes. Regulatory & Tariff-Based Studies Lead Generator Interconnection Studies and Facility Studies under the Open Access Interconnection Tariff (OAIT).
Conduct System Impact and Facility Studies for long-term firm Transmission Service Requests under the OATT or equivalent tariffs.
Perform reliability assessments for compliance with NERC and Manitoba Hydro standards including CIP-014, PRC-012, and MH-TPL-007. Stakeholder Engagement & Technical Leadership Present study findings to external stakeholders such as Transmission Operators and Owners.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of Manitoba Hydro’s Transmission System Interconnection Requirements (TSIR).
Represent Manitoba Hydro in technical working groups and committees, providing subject matter expertise in transmission planning and reliability. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university; a Master’s degree or post-graduate coursework in power systems is an asset.
7+ years of related experience, including at least 3 years in high voltage AC/DC system analysis and planning, and 1 year of supervisory experience.
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba.
Advanced knowledge of simulation tools such as PSS/E or DSA PowerTools and associated study methodologies.
Familiarity with interconnection and transmission service request procedures and relevant planning standards.
Working knowledge of control systems, protective relaying, and the electrical characteristics of transmission components.
Programming skills (e.g., Python) and experience with electromagnetic transient programs (e.g., PSCAD/EMTDC) are assets.
Knowledge of RTDS testing and RSCAD programming is an asset.
