Social Workers are primarily concerned with the relationships between people and their environments, which are integral to psychosocial, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. The social determinants of health are embedded in social work theory and practice and are the focus for the dynamic and interactive process of engagement, assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation. Social Workers build upon the strengths of patients/clients by focusing on existing coping strategies and problem solving skills, past successes, and personal resources. Working collaboratively with the healthcare team, the BSW creates a comprehensive plan for risk reduction and timely transition through assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation. The Social Worker exhibits sound professional judgment and initiative while working within the Mission, Vision and Strategic Directions of NSHA. This position requires work at multiple sites and travel between various community locations throughout the area. You will liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with other team members as required. You may have the opportunity to participate in program planning, development and to provide supervision to practicum students. This position is open to Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Social Workers, Registered Psychologists, and Occupational Therapists. Required Qualifications: Completion of one of the following programs: a Master's degree in Psychology, a Bachelor's degree in Social Work incorporating education in mental health assessment, brief counseling, and crisis intervention, a Master's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy with similar educational components, a Bachelor's degree in Nursing with training and experience in mental health assessment, crisis intervention, and brief counseling, or a Bachelor's degree in Psychiatric Nursing. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.Additional Required Qualifications: Knowledge of DSM diagnoses and criteria, evidenced by relevant training or certification. Minimum of 6 months of experience in delivering targeted mental health interventions focused on symptom management and client understanding. Minimum of 6 months of experience in assessing and supporting clients with substance use concerns, including developing and implementing treatment plans. For Master of Counselling applicants, current registration with the College of Alberta Psychologists is mandatory.
